10 Tips For Effective Web Sites
by Marisa D'Vari |

Start your year off with a professional bang
by sprucing up your web site!
More than ever before, potential clients
and buyers who hit upon your web site judge it in the
exact same way that they would judge your product
or service.
Does your web page pass muster? Unless
it underscores your credibility, you may be losing
business before they even call you for a consultation
or email you about an order.
Tip
#1: No flash allowed
That's right, no splash page, no flash, and nothing
that moves. Yes, it's fun to play with all the Internet
toys, but viewers are looking for information,
and the more gimmicks you have, the less credibility
you appear to offer.
Tip
#2 No long blocks of text
Customers who surf the web "skim" rather
than "read" -- usability studies have
proven that three lines of text work best. Separate
long
paragraphs by bolded sub heads, and leave plenty
of white space.
Tip
#3 Email links should link to a bio, not an email address
Two
reasons exist for the above statement. First, if a customer
prints out your page they will only see the appearance
of a hyper
linked name. If they want to get hold of you, how
will they reach you?
Second, it's become the convention in the Internet world
that hyper linked names lead to one's bio.
Tip
#4 List your privacy issue
We all know we are credible and would never sell names
- but how does a casual visitor to your site? Spell
out what you will do with the
names (i.e. used only to send them the newsletter or
ezine) and if you
would ever sell or rent your list to others.
Tip
# Realize that colors have a psychological value - choose
carefully!
Color has a tremendous psychological value. Blue inspires
trustworthiness. Red can incite agitation or
passion. Too many colors can tire the eye.
When you have perfected your site, check for
spelling, outdated links, and then get someone to preview
it and share their thoughts. Ask them
to be honest. After all, it took tremendous energy to
get traffic to your site - you want to keep them coming
back for more!
